      Is it adviceable to use a HT strand unoiled with Paper rapped( VPI) has a case of rust formed on the top layer after cleaning with Spray the impression of rust does not vanish it seems to be a case of pitting corrosion. What is the advisable to use the same after cleaning or reject the coil as whole

        why reject the whole coil as a whole?…remove the affected part and use the part without pitting corrosion……..i read a material regarding that…..HT strands with pitting corrosion can still be used or stressed up to the designed stress but where it will fail..?durability in the long run..

          The use of strands affected by corrosion is absolutely unaceptable.

          Ronaldo's sugestion is correct. Remove the affected part and use the rest.

          But Make sure it's quality closely monitored and assessed rigth before instalation as there may be other coroded portions.

          Pitting corosion is the most common reason for colapses of stressed structures. The reson is that even after cast in concrete the corosion keeps propagating, and in the most dangerous direction- perpendicular to the stress.
