      Dear all,
i'd like to know whats ur points of view to calcualte the required RFT to resist the lateral forses and how to detail it.

because many consutants accept that we can add the ENvelop of (1.2 SpecX, 1.2 SpecY, WinX OR WinY), then we calculate the required RFT and add it to the required RFT due to vertical loads.

this procedure is safe .. but this is not the accurate way to solve this issue.

so i'd like to know ur opinions.

      Best regards,

Can not get to the bottom of the formula you have given, but from a simple design point of view if the bidirectional bending is not part of your standard, why not simply vector sum both moments. get the section props around this axle an design it?

it is not that simple, because if i did so, it means that the final design combination is ( 1.4D+1.6L+1PT+ENV(1.2SpecX,1.2SpecY)+ENV(WinX,WinY)) which is very conservative.

actually, i've discussed this with an egyptian professor and we concluded that the best way to do it is to export the combination From ETABS and import it into ADAPT or RAM to redesign according to the known combinations for the EQ & Vertical loads.

but i tried it many times & the software can not accept the results, it hangs everytime.

          thanks for ur concern.
